FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FAQ:
What is Breastmilk Jewelry?
Breastmilk jewelry is a beautiful way to honor and empower your motherhood journey. Breastfeeding creates some of the most intimate moments of bonding with your little one, and preserving your milk allows you to carry those memories forever.
Your breastmilk is carefully preserved into a safe, bacteria-free powder, then blended with resin to create a stone. Each piece is handcrafted with intention, allowing you to cherish the way you nourished your baby and the love poured into every part of your journey.
What can I include in my keepsake?
You may send a variety of meaningful inclusions to create your custom keepsake. Here are the options we accept:
Breastmilk
Please send 15ml (half an ounce). This amount allows us to create your piece and store extra on file for future use.
Ashes (Human or Pet)
One tablespoon, but we can work with whatever amount you feel comfortable sending. Any unused ashes will be sent back with your final piece.
Hair
A one-inch section is perfect.
Dried Flowers
Bouquet flowers, memorial flowers, or any sentimental petals are welcome. Please press or air-dry the flowers completely to prevent mold during shipping.
Formula
One tablespoon is recommended.
Placenta (Dried and Crushed)
One encapsulated pill or a quarter-sized amount of completely dried placenta.
Umbilical Cord (Dried)
Cut the stump into small, dried fragments before sending.
Sand, Soil, or Grass
One tablespoon from a meaningful location is sufficient.
Pregnancy Test Caps
Send in the entire cap.
Important Reminder
Please do not send the very last of your inclusions. We recommend keeping a portion safely stored with you in the unlikely event that something is delayed or lost in the mail.
How much breastmilk do I send?
Please send 15ml (about half an ounce) of breastmilk. This amount gives us plenty to create your jewelry.
If you’re not able to collect the full amount, the minimum required is 5ml. Every drop truly helps 🤎
How do I send my inclusions to you?
After your order is placed, you will be responsible for the cost of mailing your inclusions to us. The full shipping address will be provided in your order confirmation email. This email is sent instantly once your order is placed. If it does not appear in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folder before contacting us at hello@empoweredmamajewelry.com.
What's the turnaround time?
The current turnaround time is 3 to 4 months, depending on the influx of orders. You can email us for precise turnaround since this is a general timeline. If custom bespoke work is included, the timeframe may extend to 5 to 6 months. Orders are processed as they arrive, not in order number sequence.
For the quickest turnaround, it’s best to place your order and send in your inclusions quickly when processing times are shorter.
What if I don't know my ring size?
Yes, absolutely. You can purchase your ring now and confirm your size later. We offer a free downloadable ring sizer to help you measure accurately at home.
Will you keep any leftover milk?
Yes, I do keep any leftover breastmilk and inclusions for up to 5 years in case you’d like to order additional keepsakes in the future.
If you prefer for any unused inclusions to be returned instead, please check the box in your order, and we will return with your completed keepsake.
Quality of Metals
Our 14k solid gold pieces are created as one fully unified structure. This makes them the most durable and long-lasting option, especially for everyday wear. Solid gold holds its shape, strength, and appearance for many years, which is why it’s considered true heirloom quality.
Our sterling silver and gold plated over sterling silver pieces are beautifully made as well, but they are constructed from separate components that are soldered together. Because of this, they don’t offer the same level of long-term durability as solid gold. Plated pieces will naturally show surface wear sooner, and sterling silver requires more regular upkeep to maintain its shine.
If you want a keepsake that will hold up the best over time—especially one you plan to wear often—14k solid gold is the option we recommend. The higher price reflects not only the material itself, but the strength, longevity, and overall quality you can expect from solid gold construction.
Care + Repair Info
We use a waterproof resin, but we still recommend removing your jewelry before swimming, bathing, or extended water exposure. This helps preserve both the metal and the long-term appearance of your piece.
Yellowing will not occur. With years of experience and continuous refinement of our preservation process and proprietary formula, we are fully confident in the clarity, stability, and long-term durability of our stones.
If your ring’s metal band or setting becomes misshapen, dented, or damaged, we are not able to complete metal restoration or reshaping in-house. Any structural metalwork will need to be handled by a local jeweler who specializes in repair. If you prefer to replace the piece instead, and we already have your inclusions safely preserved on file, we do offer a discounted rate on new keepsakes.
